Accreditation by the National Autistic Society

The School has been part of the accreditation scheme run by the National Autistic Society for 4 years now. Accreditation was gained in 2003. This involved a full inspection of the school and a detailed audit of provision.

Having gained the status we are inspected every year and given areas to work on to further improve provision.

The most recent report for example has asked us to look at the following as development points:

• 1. Extending the amount of independent learning.
• 2. Reviewing the policy on PECS.
• 3. Extending the use of work systems (from the TEACCH approcah).
• 4. Devise a method of recording progress in flexibility of though.

They also highlighted the following as good practice.

• Monitoting progress on the IEP targets.
• Linking good autism practice with performance management.
• Staff 'in depth' knowledge of individual pupils.
• Prompt cards for flexible thinking.
• Clear guidelines for daily routines.

The report concluded

Stanley School has made good progress this year and this is a credit to the very commited and caring staff. The panel looks forward to watching the progress over the next twelve months.
