Integration

We are lucky to share the same site as Thingwall Primary School. The schools have always enjoyed good relations and at the moment have a flourishing integration scheme.

This takes a number of different forms. About 40 pupils a week go across for lessons and other social activities including lunch times in the school. They are accompanied by a Stanley School Teaching Assistant. Pupils from Thingwall also come over to join us for soft play, Cubs and outdoor play sessions.

Younger pupils from our Early Years classes visit Thingwall playgroup each week which provides opportunities for them to make friends whilst participating in fun filled play activities with children who will eventually be their neighbours at Thingwall Primary School.

Pupils from Thingwall come over to join us for music lessons and for Cubs and Brownies. The integration is carefully planned with set objectives, recording and feedback to parents. The purpose is to increase our pupils social skills in a different setting to Stanley School.

The staff, parents and governors of Thingwall School see this project as of benefit to their school as well. A number of Stanley school staff have children at Thingwall and this further cements the relationship.

The current project has two elements:

Social Integration

For a wide variety of pupils to share experiences with their mainstream peers to enhance their social skills.

Change of setting

To move pupils through a graduated programme leading to inclusion in a mainstream or MLD setting.
Progress is measured using the Stanley Integration Matrix
